The brief

What this project had to solve

Double-height spaces meant every border had to align with the decorative ceilings above it.

Delivered for a Jiangsu villa: double-height halls and sweeping staircases, every border aligned to the ceilings above and every field dry-assembled before it shipped.

The commission

Grand Private Villa, Jiangsu in detail

The brief for this Jiangsu villa was scale: double-height halls and sweeping staircases where the floor pattern had to hold its proportions from the gallery as well as from the ground. Every border was aligned to the decorative ceiling above it, so the room reads as a single designed volume.

We set each field out from the hall's axes, sized the panels to the Statuario, Emperador and Giallo Siena that existed, and cut the borders, fields and stair landings as one continuous composition. The floor was dry-assembled in the factory and photographed for sign-off before crating.

Installed, the inlaid fields meet the curved staircases without a cut and the borders land exactly beneath the ceiling mouldings — the detail that separates a bespoke floor from a stocked one.

The stair landings were templated on site and checked against the drawing before the final cut, so the flight turns without a visible interruption. A spare set of the small inlay pieces was supplied with the crates, for the day a tread needs repair.

How we make it

From drawing to crating

01

Full-size drawing

The pattern is drawn 1:1 on the atelier floor before any stone is cut, so proportions are settled at the scale you will walk on.

02

Stone selection

Blocks and slabs are chosen against the drawing, vein by vein, and photographed for your approval.

03

Waterjet cutting

Multi-axis waterjet cuts every piece direct from the approved CAD file, held to ±0.1mm across the whole figure.

04

Dry assembly & crating

The composition is assembled, inspected and numbered on the factory floor, then crated with a setting plan.
