A marble border is the line that frames a floor and gives a room its proportions. Run around the edge of a field, it separates the field from the walls, marks the boundary of a medallion, and absorbs the tolerances where stone meets wall or timber, so the field tiles out in whole pieces.

A border does the structural work of a floor plan. We calculate the border width from the room, then cut the band, its inlay and the corner returns as one continuous line, so the motif turns a corner without a break and never drifts. Corners are mitred and closed by hand, not butted.

Classic motifs include the Greek key, guilloche, acanthus scroll and beaded lines; modern schemes favour clean linear bands and contrasting stone fillets. Bespoke borders are drawn from your design and cut from a single waterjet file, so repeated motifs match exactly along their length.

Borders are also used vertically — as wall accents, dado lines and transitions between two marbles where a floor changes stone. Machined and hand-dressed to exacting tolerances, our borders integrate flush into polished fields so the line reads as one unified surface rather than an applied strip.

Borders can be supplied loose for an existing floor, or cut as part of a full marble composition with the field and any medallion, so everything meets on the same joint standard. They are the least expensive way to add a bespoke, architectural line to a floor that is otherwise a simple field.

Send a plan or a length and width and we will return a border design, a cut plan and an itemised quote within three working days.

Questions

Asked about marble borders & accents

A marble border is an inlaid band that frames a floor, marks the field and absorbs the tolerances where stone meets wall or timber — in motifs such as Greek key, guilloche or clean modern lines.

Often, yes — borders can be supplied loose and cut to fit, or as part of a full composition with the field and any medallion on the same joint standard.

We calculate the width from the room so the field tiles out in whole pieces; from 30mm upward, with the band, inlay and mitred corners cut as one continuous line.
