Pricing & budgeting

Because custom marble inlay is cut to a room's exact architecture rather than sold out of boxes, no single square-metre rate applies across every project. Two floors of identical floor area can vary significantly in price depending on curve density, stone rarity and whether the work involves monumental waterjet marquetry or hand-carved Florentine pietre dure.

Pattern geometry is the primary cost driver under the designer's control. Broad architectural fields with clean rectilinear borders and restrained geometric motifs cut rapidly and assemble with minimal hand work. Intricate floral arabesques, multi-layered acanthus scrollwork and fine brass inlay require slower waterjet feed rates, hundreds of individual pieces per square metre, and days of bench assembly.

Material selection is the second major lever. Classic architectural marbles such as Bianco Carrara, Crema Marfil, Nero Marquina and Emperador Dark sit at the accessible tier. Premium Italian Statuario and Calacatta Gold carry higher raw-block costs and waste factors during vein matching, while semi-precious stones such as lapis lazuli, malachite, amethyst and mother-of-pearl are priced by the kilogram and shaped entirely by hand.

Project scale works in your favour. Once our CAD engineers programme the cutting files and calibrate the waterjet heads, setup costs are amortised across the floor area, meaning a 200m² hotel lobby or grand hall typically carries a lower rate per square metre than a standalone 4m² powder room.

Every Art Inlay quotation is fully itemised — showing raw stone, waterjet cutting, hand assembly, surface finishing and ISPM-15 export crating as separate lines — so your cost consultant can see exactly where the budget sits and adjust the specification with confidence.

How we make it

From drawing to crating

01

Full-size drawing

The pattern is drawn 1:1 on the atelier floor before any stone is cut, so proportions are settled at the scale you will walk on.

02

Stone selection

Blocks and slabs are chosen against the drawing, vein by vein, and photographed for your approval.

03

Waterjet cutting

Multi-axis waterjet cuts every piece direct from the approved CAD file, held to ±0.1mm across the whole figure.

04

Dry assembly & crating

The composition is assembled, inspected and numbered on the factory floor, then crated with a setting plan.

Questions

Answered for specifiers

Piece count per square metre ranges from 8 pieces in a bold geometric floor to over 400 pieces in a floral pietre dure medallion. Quoting from your floor plan gives you an exact factory figure rather than a misleading ballpark.

Pair a bespoke waterjet border or focal entrance medallion with large-format book-matched field slabs; this concentrates the craftsmanship at the room's focal points while keeping overall square-metre costs controlled.

Send a dimensioned plan or concept sketch and we return a complete line-by-line quotation within three working days, valid for 30 days.
